They helped me apply for the Canadian disability tax credit, walked me through the appeal process and eventually I got approved. They set my home up with a security system, on the go GPS monitoring, a fall detection and emergency call neck pendant. They helped me get fitted with hearing aids, got me set up with TTC Wheel Trans where a city taxi will pick me up and take me anywhere in the city for a nominal fee. They also manage all of my medical appointments and got me set up with a hospital bed rental, commode, and walker. They also got me enrolled in the Providence Health Adult Day Program where I can be picked up and brought in to spend the day with other seniors.
I've been using weekly visit services for a few months now, and it's been a lifesaver. The caregivers are friendly, engaging, and help me with everything from grocery shopping to light housekeeping. They've become like family to me, and I look forward to their visits every week.
After my hip replacement surgery I wasn't sure how I was going to manage with stairs leading into my home and limited space to walk around and do my exercises. There were no rehab facility beds available so NHC found me a bed for a 3-week stay in a nursing / assisted living facility. They helped me with the admission process and after my discharge set me up with a raised toilet seat and arranged to have my home outfitted with safety equipment. They also arranged wheelchair accessible transportation to my follow-up and physio appointments and picked up my prescription medications. They also pointed me in the direction of the government subsidized home renovation program. I highly recommend their services.
